When it comes to cleaning your own wheelie bins you want to make sure that you aren't spending more time than you have to. This article will outline the fastest, most hygienic and environmentally friendly way to clean your wheelie bins.

Total cost ~$30
Total time ~ 20 Minutes
effort level ~ medium

Equipment
First things first - Get your hands on the right chemicals. Look for something that will kill germs, destroy odours and wont hurt mother nature. A product that ticks all those boxes is 'Diggers Wheelie Bin Cleaner'. This products is available at Bunnings and will cost you around $4 for 1 litre.
At myBins we use a higher grade degreaser in conjunction with a deodoriser, but Diggers will still work well.
The next thing you need to focus on is protecting yourself. Wheelie bins are an ideal breeding ground for harmful bacteria and spiders so you will want to make sure you are well protected before starting. Head down to your local supermarket or hardware store and pick up some waterproof gloves and goggles. The total shouldn't exceed $20. If you have enclosed footwear make sure that you wear them while cleaning your wheelie bin.
Finally you will need to equip yourself with a scrubbing device and hose with a spraying connection. Do not used something that you will used for anything but cleaning wheelie bins. Also make sure that your scrubbing device has a long enough handle that you can reach the bottom of your wheelie bin.

Process
  1. Make sure the bin is completely empty and any liquids at the bottom of the bin are removed.
  2. Lather the bins (inside and out) with your chosen wheelie bin cleaning product and let them sit for 5-10 minutes
  3. Scrub and remove any stubborn marks inside and outside the bin
  4. Hose the inside of the bin and clean off the lose grime
  5. Turn the bin upside down and hose the outside of the wheelie bin. Make sure you get under the groves at the top and bottom of the wheelie bin as this is where most of the spiders reside.
  6. Leave the bin upside down for 5-10 minute (preferably in the sun) and wait until dry.

Bonus Pro Tip
Once you have cleaned your bin, spray the outside and inside with a pest control aerosol and line your wheelie bins with a large bin liners. This will ensure the contents of the rubbish don't touch the bin and the insects are kept at bay.

Good luck!
